Team Newsletter – October 2018

We hope your child has settled in to their class(es) by now. Our biggest priority with your child’s commitment to their Team is finding value and learning in class. Being a part of APA, we want your child to experience MORE than just great arts education. You will see our Academy giving back at our upcoming events. This month we are participating in Fox 6’s Coats for Kids. Read more about it below.  Happy October!

Choreography Camps: Don’t forget the Fall Choreography Camps start this Friday, October 5th! Click here to see the schedule.

Team Performance Dates:  CLICK HERE – please check this each month for updates.

Contacting Team Coordinator: In this day and age we know it can be tempting to reach out to our Team Coordinator via Facebook, or text or phone calls.  However, so we can have a record of these conversations it is now a policy at APA that you only reach out via the Team email ([email protected]) or calling the studio at 414.768.0101.  Miss Trisha is no longer allowed to respond to text messages, phone calls (to her private number) or Private Facebook Messages.  Thank you for your understanding.

Miss Trisha’s current hours her hours are Monday and Tuesday from 9am-11am and 3:30pm-9pm and Thursdays from 4-9pm.

South Milwaukee LIGHTED Christmas Parade:  We have the South Milwaukee Christmas Parade coming up on Saturday, November 24 for their first ever lighted Christmas Parade.  We will meet around 5:45pm.  All of our Teams will be performing at this event (Pre-Team and Mini Hip Hop are invited to walk the parade route, but they are not required to attend if you feel they are too young to walk the parade route. If your Pre-team or Mini Hip Hop dancer walks a parent must walk with them). Please have your dancer start learning the parade dance at home.  We will be sending out a video link by the end of October.   This is the same dance as our 4th of July routine but with a different song.  Due to the lack of interest and participation over the last two years, we will not have an in-studio parade practice.

For the parade, we will have everyone wear their warmup jacket (with layers underneath), any black yoga/jazz pants and any tennis shoes. You will also need to purchase a black pair of gloves and black headband to cover your ears. Please start looking for these items now!  Details about when and where to meet for the parade will be in the November newsletter.  Please remember this is a required Team event.

Logo Wear for Sale:  Get your “Fan Of” t-shirts, APA hoodies, tanks, t-shirts and more!  You can place orders from our online store from the 1st-10th of each month.  We do not have these items available at the studio. All orders will take 3-4 weeks after the store closing date and will be shipped for free to APA.  We will notify you when your items are available for pick-up.  Click here to order!    DO NOT ORDER YOUR TEAM JACKET FROM THIS STORE.

Practicing at Home: All competitive team dancers are expected to be practicing at home. When the dancers learn something in class, we want them to review and memorize it at home so we can move faster in our classes.

Absences: If your child will be absent for any classes or rehearsals please inform your coach AND send us an email.  Remember there are limited absences allowed throughout the year unless it is an APA sponsored event, such as a dance convention with APA. The coaches do track attendance and tardies, so after the second absence you will receive an email to remind you of the policy and how many absences your child has.  Please refer to the Team contract for specific absence policies for each Team level.  All specialty Teams (Hip Hop, Poms, and Tap are considered Pink).

Hair and Makeup: Team students are required to wear their hair and make-up a certain way for most required events.  We have instructional videos for how to do performance hair and make-up on the Team website. We are going to have Miss Sarah check everyone’s hair and make-up at the winter showcase.  We are still finalizing Pre Team and Mini Hip Hop hair.

Convention Details:  For those of you who signed up for the Showstopper Convention (October 13th -14th) we will email out details as they become available.  Please expect an email from us 1 week prior to the event.  Please remember you are representing APA and our policies (such as the modest policy) apply.

Team Fees: We wanted to give another reminder that on January 1st we will automatically be charging the account on file for Competitive Team fees. Since this is the largest payment, we want to give everyone as much time to plan as possible. Please remember this is per routine:  1st Routine fees approximately: $360. Each additional routine is $225, including Production.

Student of the Month:  Congratulations to Elyse Johnson, our Team Dancer of the Month! Elyse is in 7th grade at Franklin Park Middle School where her favorite subject in school is Math. She likes using the Snapchat App, her fav food is Mac N’Cheese and she loves cheesecake for dessert. Elyse has been dancing for 8 years, and we’re so happy she has decided to join the APA Teams! Her favorite style of dance is Jazz, and one day she hopes to become a dance teacher/choreographer or a FBI Agent.  Elyse’s coaches say she is a delight to have in practises; she is always ready to dance and eager to learn more. We can tell she practices her dances because she’s confident and has a smile that sparkles. She sets a good example for her peers and we think she’s off to a great start this season. Congratulations Elyse, keep up the great work!!
