Team Newsletter – October 2019

[vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no”][vc_column][vc_column_text]We hope your child has settled in to their classes by now and is enjoying being a member of our Teams!  Our biggest priority within the competitive program is helping dancers find value in hard work and a love for learning. Being a part of APA, we want your child to experience MORE than just great arts education.

Choreography Camps: Don’t forget the Fall Choreography Camps start this Saturday, October 5th! CLICK HERE to see the schedule.

Team Event Calendar:  CLICK HERE– please check this frequently for updates.

Contacting Team Coordinator: In this day and age we know it can be tempting to reach out to our Team Coordinator via Facebook, or text or phone calls.  However, so we can have a record of these conversations, it is policy at APA that you only reach out via the Team email ([email protected]) or by calling the studio at 414.768.0101.  Miss Trisha is no longer allowed to respond to text messages, phone calls (to her private number) or Private Facebook Messages. Thank you for your understanding. Miss Trisha’s current hours are Monday thru Thursday from 9am-11:30am and Monday and Wednesday evenings from 3:30-9pm.

Convention Details:  For those of you who signed up for the Showstopper Convention (October 12th -13th) we will email out details as they become available.  Please expect an email from us 1 week prior to the event. Remember, you are representing APA and our policies apply.

South Milwaukee LIGHTED Christmas Parade:  We have South Milwaukee’s Christmas Parade (the second year they’re doing lights) coming up on Saturday, November 23, 2019!. All of our Teams will be performing at this event (Mini Jazz and Tap and Mini Hip Hop are invited to walk the parade route, but they are not required to attend if you feel they are too young. If your Mini dancer walks, a parent must walk with them). Please have your dancer start practicing the parade dance at home, required parade practice details are below. We will be sending out a video link by the end of October. This is the same dance as our 4th of July routine but with a different song (may contain slight modifications due to this being a lighted parade).

Parade Practice @ OC APA:  November 23rd 415pm-515pm.  We will practice directly before the parade to work on our lines.  We will practice inside and outside.  We will set up carpools to get students from APA to the parade line-up.  Details will be in the November newsletter.  The parade is scheduled to start at 6pm.

For the parade, we will have everyone wear their warmup jacket (with layers underneath), any black yoga/jazz pants and any tennis shoes – dark shoes would be great if you have them. You will also need to purchase a black pair of gloves and black headband to cover your ears. Please start looking for these items now! Details about when and where to meet for the parade will be in the November newsletter. Please remember this is a required Team event.

TEAM JACKET ORDERS: Online Store now open to purchase Team Jackets.

This jacket is exclusive for our Team Dancers only. All orders must be placed by October 6th, midnight. If you currently have a jacket that still fits you do not need to purchase a new one unless you want to. Jackets are $65 plus a bagging fee and sales tax. Jackets will arrive to APA approximately 2 weeks after the order deadline. Reminder, it is a requirement that you wear your Team jacket during award sessions at all competitions and in the Christmas Parade. If you would like to see the final product or if you still need your dancer to be sized, you can stop at the Oak Creek front desk. The jackets do run a little small.  https://dunns-apadance2019.itemorder.com/sale

Logo Wear for Sale:  Get your “Fan Of” t-shirts, APA hoodies, tanks, t-shirts and more!  You can place orders from our online store from the 1st-10th of each month. We do not have these items available at the studio. All orders will take 3-4 weeks after the store closing date and will be shipped for free to APA.  We will notify you when your items are available for pick-up.  Click here to order!  DO NOT ORDER YOUR TEAM JACKET FROM THIS STORE.

Practicing at Home: All Competitive Team dancers are expected to be practicing at home. When the dancers learn something in class, we want them to review and memorize it at home so we can move faster in our classes.

Absences: If your child will be absent for any classes or rehearsals please inform your coach AND complete the absence form on the Team website. Remember there are limited absences allowed throughout the year unless it is an APA sponsored event, such as a dance convention with APA. The coaches do track attendance and tardies, so after the second absence you will receive an email to remind you of the policy and how many absences your child has. Refer to the Team contract for specific absence policies for each Team level. All specialty Teams (Hip Hop, Poms, and Tap are considered Pink).

Fire Safety in Oak Creek: Due to fire safety concerns dancers are no longer allowed to sit, eat, do homework, etc in the back hallway/nook by the back door exit. In case of an emergency that area needs to be completely clear of any obstacles on the floor.

Hair and Makeup: Team students are required to wear their hair and make-up a certain way for most required events.  We have instructional “How-To” videos for performance hair and make-up on the Team website. We are going to have Miss Sarah check everyone’s hair and make-up at the Winter Showcase.  We are still finalizing Mini Hip Hop hair due to hairpieces/hats.

Team Fees: We wanted to give another reminder that on January 2nd we will automatically be charging the account on file for Competitive Team fees. Since this is the largest payment, we want to give everyone as much time to plan as possible. Please remember this is per routine:  1st Routine fees approximately: $395. Each additional routine is $250, including Production.

Students of the Month:

We will be having a Mini/Petite Dancer of the month AND a Junior/Teen/Senior Dancer of the month each month!

Congratulations to Alexis Chambers, our Petite Dancer of the Month! Alexis is in 3rd grade at St. Matthew’s where her favorite subject in school is Science. Alexis would like to be a scientist or a dancer when she grows up. Alexis’ favorite food is tacos and she loves ice cream for dessert. Her favorite color is hot pink and favorite holiday is Christmas. Her heroes are her Mom and Dad.  Alexis has been dancing for 5 years, and this is her 4th year on APA Teams! Her favorite style of dance is Jazz. Alexis is on Petite Blue Jazz, Petite Lyrical, Petite Tap and the Production Team this season. She is looking forward to learning all of her dances and competing in the spring. Her coaches nominated her because she has kicked this year off on the right foot, and with some pep in her step!! She has returned each week with choreography rehearsed and ready to work.  She is always full of fun, energetic and spunk when dancing. We can’t wait to watch Alexis grow and give it her all this year! Keep up the great work, and energy you bring to your dances!

Congratulations to Payton Kubusek, our Junior/Teen Dancer of the month! Payton is in 7th grade at Oak Creek East Middle School where her favorite subject is Math. She hopes to become a lawyer someday. Payton’s favorite holiday is Halloween because she loves the fall and dressing up with her friends! Her favorite color is white and her favorite treat is a strawberry refresher, no berries and light on the ice! Her favorites foods are pasta salad and shredded beef sandwiches. Her hero is her Dad. Payton has been dancing for 9 years and this is her 5th year on APA teams. Payton is on our Junior Pink Jazz, Junior Pink Lyrical and Teen Hip Hop teams this season. Her favorite style is Lyrical. She is looking forward to going to Myrtle Beach with her dance family. Her coaches nominated Payton because she shows up each week with a positive outlook on class and the upcoming year. When she dances you can tell she dances from the heart, and truly gives it her all. Her hard work does not go unnoticed, it shows when she comes to class. You can also see her practicing her routines or helping another teammate on the side. We are so proud of her hard work and the dedication she puts forth for her Teams and the competitive program. We cannot wait to see where the year takes you, Payton. Keep up the good work and let your passion for dance shine bright!
