5 Holiday Activities to Celebrate the Season!

Christmas is a time for family, friends, and most importantly, kids! There are so many activities you can do with your loved ones to celebrate the season.

From decorating the tree, caroling through your neighborhood, and waiting for that first Winter snowfall the holidays are filled with memories to make and moments to share.

To help you get started we’ve compiled a list of five activities that will bring everyone together for this holiday season.

 Decorate a Gingerbread House

The holiday season is all about spending time with the ones you love. It’s a great tradition to have your whole family help out in creating beautiful gingerbread houses together. Not only are you building memories, but it also becomes a fun activity to do on cold winter days!  It’s easy and delicious! You can find pre-baked houses at your local grocery store or find a recipe and make your own from scratch! Kids can be creative and make a classic design or get CRAZY with colors and candy!  It’s a great tradition to have your whole family help out in creating beautiful gingerbread houses together.

Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt

One of the best ways to get into the Christmas spirit is by driving around with your family to see local Christmas light displays. Whether you travel to Jellystone Park, American Family Field, or just take a drive around your neighborhood, seeing the city in lights makes the holiday bright with Christmas cheer! It can be a really fun activity for all ages and this season makes it extra exciting with a scavenger hunt! We have created a FREE printable for your family to check off iconic Christmas light displays!

Santa Letters! Drexel Townsquare Mailbox

Take the tradition of writing letters to Santa and make it a family event! Have your kiddos seal their Christmas wishes in an envelope and head over to Drexel Town Square. They have a beautiful light display, the city’s Christmas tree, and a mailbox that takes letters directly to the big man himself!

Christmas Movie Night!

Family movie night is a tradition that many families cherish. It’s the perfect time to share your favorite movies with your loved ones and get cozy by the fire! With so many great family favorites out there, it can be tough to decide which one to watch, but we’re here to help. Here are 5 of our favorite Christmas movies for you and your family this holiday season: Elf, Home Alone, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Charlie Brown Christmas (a classic!), The Polar Express (great for little kids) and White Christmas! So gather up all your loved ones and enjoy these great classics together while they last!

Visit Santa Claus at one of his jolly locations around town!

A tradition going back generations, making the trip to see Santa is the cherry on top of Christmas! Although things may be different due to the pandemic, kiddos can still make their yearly trip to see the man in red! Taking photos, telling Santa that one special present they have been wishing for and spending time together with the family. And truth be told, nothing says Christmas like Santa Claus!

The holiday season is a time for family and friends to come together, so wherever you find yourself this year, make it a point to spend as much time with your loved ones as possible. Whether that means baking gingerbread houses or taking a Christmas light drive, the memories will be treasured forever!
