Happy Memorial Weekend!
The weather is warming, flowers are blooming and summer is just around the corner.
Memorial Day is the unofficial kick-off to the season and we have 5 activities that are perfect for the family to enjoy over the long weekend. Crafts that will make your backyard barbeque extra special, sweet treats you can make together with the family and fun ways to take time to remember and learn about the holiday’s history.

- Poppy Flower Picture Craft
Celebrate Memorial Day with this fun and meaningful craft! Kids will love making their own poppy flowers, and they’ll be proud to display them as a reminder of the holiday. All you need are some supplies that you probably already have around the house: colored construction paper, pipe cleaners, glue sticks, and scissors. First, glue the pipe cleaner to a piece of construction paper. Next, tear red construction paper into pieces for the flower petals. Then wind a brown pipe cleaner into a circle for the center of the poppy flower. Finally, glue the center and petals to the stem. Your poppy flower is now complete! Kids can make as many as they like, and they can even share them with friends and family. What a great way to teach kids about the importance of Memorial Day!
- Take A Moment To Remember
Memorial Day commemorates soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Spend time with the family and take a moment to remember those men and women and learn about the holidays’ history. Did you know that Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day? Or that the Poppy flower is the symbol for the holiday? Learning about the heritage of Memorial Day can help create new ways to celebrate for years to come.
