What a great start to the New Year! Keep up the hard work. We are looking forward to the great competitions we have coming up in the next few months.
Calendar of Events: This will always be displayed in every newsletter. Make sure to view each month for important upcoming dates. CLICK HERE
Required Competition Kick Off Lock-In / Bonding Event AND Mandatory Parent Meeting (plus newly added Production Practice): Please save the date February 7th – 8th. Times are outlined below. All Mini Jazz/Tap and Mini Hip Hop will not sleep over. Parent meeting will be at 8am, Saturday February 8th.
- Mini Jazz/Tap and Mini Hip Hop: 6:30-8pm ONLY with Miss Jessie, Miss Alyse, and Mini assistants. We will serve pizza and juice. NEW: You will need a water bottle to serve as a cup for all beverages this year – due to the HUGE waste of cups in previous years, causing pain to Miss Sarah’s heart and the environment, we are not providing cups.
- All other teams: Arrive at 8pm
- What to bring: Pillow and sleeping bag or blankets, PJ’s, change of clothes and hygiene items (dance clothes and shoes are not needed for this one), water bottles (there will be NO cups), money for vending machine snacks (optional), and dance clothes if they have Production practice in the morning.
- APA will be providing soda and pizza when students arrive. We will also provide muffins and fruit for the morning when students wake up.
- Activities for the night: Team bonding games, watch a movie, and “sleep.” Younger dancers on our Petite-level Teams may have a set sleep-time. There is an early-sleepers room, so those who want to go to bed with less noise can do so in studio A.
- Mandatory Parent Meeting will start at 8am on Saturday morning in Studio B. Due to limited number of chairs and benches, dancers will need to sit on the floor. This meeting will go over what to expect for the competition season and answer your questions about what it’s like, how information will be put out, etc.
- Production Practice will start in Studio C at 8am as well, and run until 10am.

Petite/Junior: Congratulations to Claire Budziszewski our Petite/Junior Team dancer of the month. Claire is in the fourth grade and attends Hamlin Garland Elementary School. Her favorite subjects are Math and Writing. Her two favorite colors are teal and pink. Claire’s favorite food is cheese pizza and grapes and her favorite treat is ice cream with hot fudge! YUMMM!!! She enjoys all holidays but her favorites are Christmas, Halloween and Easter. Claire hopes to be in the medical profession like her hero, her mom. She hopes to be a pediatric physician’s assistant when she grows up. This is Claire’s 4th year at APA and her 3rd year on Teams. This year Claire is on Petite/Junior Poms and Junior Tap. She is really excited for the new competitions, especially the Starpower Competition. Miss Heather said “Claire has been doing a great job in both Petite/Junior Poms and Stretch and Strength. Each week she strives to perform better than the week previous and continues to make corrections and focuses on applying her technique training to her dancing. Claire’s consistent
determination to grow as a dancer is why I nominated her.” Congratulations Claire!
Junior/Teen/Senior: Congratulations to Hannah Fleming our Teen Dancer of the Month. Hannah is a freshman at Oak Creek High School where her favorite subject is Science. Hannah hopes to become a Pediatric Hospitalist when she is older. Hannah’s favorite color is blue and her favorite holiday is Christmas. She also loves pasta and her favorite treat is a brownie! Yum! Hannah has been dancing at APA for 4 years and this is her 2nd year on Teams. Her favorite style of dance is Lyrical. She is on Teen Jazz, Teen Lyrical and Teen Poms. She is looking forward to Nationals the most this year. Miss Heather says “Hannah is an amazing example of what a positive dancer looks like. She’s focused in her classes and continues to challenge herself to push past excuses to achieve Team goals in Poms and Stretch and Strength each week. Hannah is also a great assistant and is helpful with the young dancers, is always prepared for class and ready to work. She is a great role model. Her demonstration of responsibility and reliability is why I nominated her.” Great Job Hannah!
Costume Checklist: Miss Sarah has created a costume checklist for all Teams. Please click here to access it. It should be used to pack for all Competitions, and when leaving all Competitions, to ensure your dancer has everything they need. This can also be accessed on the Team App under “Documents.”
Attendance Requirement Reminder: Just a friendly reminder in regards to the Team Commitment Contract that everyone signed at the registration appointments with Miss Sarah: It is mandatory for every dancer to attend and dance in the last rehearsal and tech classes before a competition. If they do not attend or are unable to dance in the rehearsal before a competition, the teachers will NOT place the student in the routine for that particular competition. Our teachers will adjust the formations at the last rehearsal before a competition if someone does not attend or if they have an injury. The dancer is still required to attend the competition and support their Team. If you are not able to compete, we are unable to give refunds for competitions since these fees are paid in advance. If you have questions about this policy, please ask at the Parent Meeting. Also, reminder to our solos/duets that if you are not performing up to par in your team dances, we may pull your solo for one or more competitions. Team commitments are priority.
