Team Newsletter – March 2019

As we are fast approaching the end of our school year, our newsletters are especially important.  Here are a few things to be aware of:

All of our students will receive a Free t-shirt in June!  This year’s shirt is dark grey and a picture of the design is shown below.  If you (parents) would like to order one, please pay at our front desk by Monday, April 8th.  They are $20 plus tax, add $2 for 2XL or 3XL.  T-shirts are unisex so they run bigger.  Note: ALL Students will receive a FREE one.  Parent t-shirts will be available for pick up the last week of dance classes in June at your location.

Student of the Month: Grace Mensch – Congratulations to Grace Mensch, our Team Dancer of the month. Grace is a Freshman at Oak Creek High School, where her favorite subject is band. When she grows up she hopes to be a Veterinarian. Her favorite color is blue. Grace enjoys using the Spotify app. She loves cheesecake and cookie dough, and her favorite food is cheese. Grace’s hero is her mom! Grace has been dancing and competing with APA Teams for 8 years, where her favorite styles of dance are Ballet and Contemporary. Her best dance memory was learning and performing her solo last year. Grace says dance has helped her become more confident in herself and helps relieve anxiety.  Her dance teachers say Grace always comes to class with an open mind about improving and advancing in her training.  She’s willing to take corrections and works to improve each and every day.  She is very respectful to teachers, staff and other dancers.  She’s a great role model for younger dancers in and out of the studio!  Congratulations Grace!

Details from Parent Meeting – If you were unable to join us for the parent meeting last month please go to our Team Facebook page to view it. All families are responsible for getting the information from the meeting.

NEW! Dance PODs At this past lock-in we put the dancers into groups called PODs (Partners On Dance) and will be giving each student a list of the other members in their group. The PODs give kids the opportunity to form relationships with dancers on other teams and in other age groups. They’ll have the chance to get guidance from students with more competitive experience and also to learn to be good leaders and helpers with each other. There is a video about these on the Team Facebook page, please check that out!

Production Practice! We are inviting all students in Production to come in for extra practice next Wednesday before Legacy. Class is 6-7pm in OC on Wednesday the 6th at no extra charge. We strongly encourage all dancers to come as it was clear during this past dress rehearsal practice that some would benefit from extra practice and because Legacy is our Nationals qualifier competition! Thank you!

Legacy Competition Date and Call Times–  Reminder: our next competition is the Legacy Dance Championship in New Berlin, March 8th -10th. Please make sure to block this entire weekend for the competition. As soon as APA receives the final schedule and we create our call times, we will send it to you right away.  In the Dance Industry, it is standard to not receive this until the week of competition.

Bake Sale at the APA Community Easter Egg Hunt Sign Up – If you would like to earn money to go towards your dancer’s National Fees or Next Year’s Competition Fees , we are looking for the first 6 families to email Trisha at [email protected].  You will need to provide 3 dozen bake sale items AND 1 adult will need to volunteer at the Easter Egg Hunt. A dancer can also volunteer in addition to the adult, but must be 12 years old or older.  All money earned will be divided equally between the 6 families.  This will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Once the first 6 families have emailed Trisha, she will email out details – including a sign-up on what to bring to the bake sale.

NEW Dress Rehearsal and Competitive Show Information Last year we had an end of the year competitive team showcase featuring all of our team performances held at the South Milwaukee Middle School.  After much discussion, we’ve decided that most of our competitive teams will NOT have rehearsals at SMPAC for their team rehearsals but instead will put on a competitive showcase on Tuesday, June 11th at 7pm at the SMPAC.  This will still be a paid event that spectators would need to purchase tickets to attend.  We will still have regular rehearsal times for our tech ballet classes, our blue team opening act, and production.  More details to come!
