Team Newsletter – November 2019

[vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Wow, it is hard to believe November is here!

We are closed for Thanksgiving Break on Wednesday, November 27th – Sunday, December 1st

Don’t forget we still have the South Milwaukee Christmas Parade on Saturday, November 23rd – we also have our extra Saturday rehearsals for all Teams on this day for the month of November so we can keep more of your weekends open. We hope each and every one of you have a very Happy Thanksgiving with good food and great company!  Thank you for being a part of our APA family. As always, if you need anything, please let us know!  We are here to help.

Up next: We hope you can join us for our 6th Annual APA Community Christmas Party on Sunday, December 8th at our Oak Creek location! This is open to the public, so bring a friend! More details are below.

APA Team Dancers of the Month:

Congratulations to Ariana South, our Petite Dancer of the Month. Ariana is in 3rd grade at Carollton Elementary where her favorite subject is Art. When she grows up she wants to be a veterinarian. Her favorite foods are tacos and ribs and her favorite treat is doughnuts. Ariana’s favorite holiday is Halloween because she loves to dress up. Her favorite style of dance is Jazz. This is Ariana’s second year on APA’s Competitive Teams and she is a member of the Petite Green Jazz Team. She is looking forward to going to the dance competitions with her friends. Miss Danielle nominated Ariana because she has quickly become one of the leaders on her Petite Green Jazz Team. She works hard in every class, understands terminology being used, and comes to each class prepared and knowing her choreography. She has a bright, positive attitude that spreads all around.

Congratulations to Sierra Petersen, our Junior/Teen Dancer of the Month. Sierra is in 8th grade at Oak Creek East Middle School where her favorite subject is Art. She hopes to become a physical therapist when she gets older. Sierra’s favorite color is pastel pink. Her favorite food is lasagna and her favorite treat is ice cream! Her favorite holiday is almost here, Thanksgiving. Her favorite style of dance is Lyrical. This is Sierra’s 11th year dancing at APA and her 1st year on Competitive Teams. She is a member of the Teen Green Jazz Team, and is looking forward to dancing at competitions this season. Being new to Teams this year, Sierra has transitioned seamlessly to the added commitment. She comes to every class well-prepared, works to fix corrections quickly, and is very respectful to every person around her. She is also an assistant this year with a K-1st class and shows great patience with the kids.

Congratulations ladies!

South Milwaukee LIGHTED Christmas Parade:  We have South Milwaukee’s Christmas Parade (the second year they are doing lights) coming up on Saturday, November 23, 2019. All of our Teams will be performing at this event (Mini Jazz and Tap and Mini Hip Hop are invited to walk the parade route, but they are not required to attend if you feel they are too young. If your Mini dancer walks, a parent must walk with them). This is the same dance as our 4th of July routine but with a different song (may contain slight modifications due to this being a lighted parade).

REMEMBER: This is the SAME DAY of our Extra Saturday rehearsals for the month of November. We know it will be a lot of dancing that day for some of our students, but we wanted to keep more of your weekends open this month!

Parade Practice @ OC APA:  November 23rd 415pm-515pm.  We will practice directly before the parade to work on our lines. We will practice inside and outside. We will set up carpools to get students from APA to the parade line-up.

The parade is scheduled to start at 6pm.

For the parade, everyone needs to wear their warmup jacket (with layers underneath), any black yoga/jazz pants and any tennis shoes – dark shoes would be great if you have them. You will also need to purchase a black pair of gloves and black headband to cover your ears. Please start looking for these items now!

Attire:

APA Team jacket

Multiple layers underneath the jacket

Black leggings

Dance tights and extra layers under the black leggings

Long black socks, that cover any skin between the dancer’s pants and shoes to be worn underneath the pants.  No skin should be showing around the ankles.

Primarily black tennis shoes are preferred if you have some.

Black ear warmers and black gloves

Hair in a clean or curly ponytail (no fly-aways)

APA will be providing glow sticks for each dancer.

We are looking for parents/guardians to help carpool the dancers from APA to the start of the parade. We are also in need of 8 parents to walk with APA during the parade.  4 parents will be walking behind our group and 4 parents will be handing out giveaways/flyers.  If you would be willing to help drive dancers and/or volunteer at the parade please click the link below and complete the google form.

To be as efficient as possible, parents will form a line in the pick-up lane, and we will send out your dancer and dancers who needs a ride to your car. Your child’s friends are not guaranteed to be in your car, but please take this opportunity to talk and bond with other dancers.

A parent needs to pick up student at the end of the parade route 1 block south of SM City Hall.  You need to meet when APA is done, not the when the whole parade is completed.

Hair & Makeup

Hair & Makeup Demo Videos for ALL Teams are available on our website under  Members Area > Team Info (the password protected section).
Please watch these videos and make sure you’re doing the makeup as instructed, it will look heavy up close!

The following Teams will do double-space buns: Mini Jazz, Mini Tap, Petite Green Jazz, Petite Tap.   Everyone else will have a single low bun with middle part per the video. We know this will require hair changes for some dancers, and it may be quick, but it’s what creates the best image/presentation on stage for each group.

Miss Sarah will check hair and makeup at the Winter Showcase and let dancers know if they need to make any changes or add more.

In-House FULL Dance Dress Rehearsal: Starting Saturday, December 7th – Friday, December 13th we will have our students come to their last regular class AT APA before our Showcase in complete costume, competitive rehearsals do NOT need full makeup, but you should have your hair done in the style required for the Team (competition-ready perfection not required for this). If your Team is listed above for double buns, you will need those in to make sure all hairpieces are positioned the same. This will help our teachers see if there are any costume or shoe issues before our performance.
