We know this Thanksgiving might look different for your family this year but we hope you enjoy your day!   We are so thankful to have you be a part of our APA family. As always, if you need anything, please let us know!  We are here to help. 

APA Team Dancer of the Month:  Charlotte Fischer
Congratulations!!! Charlotte, a.k.a Charlie, is seven years old and attends Bay Lane Elementary in Muskego. Charlie’s favorite color is purple and her favorite subject is art. When she’s not creating at school she’s working hard in the studio! Charlie’s favorite style of dance is Jazz and she is hoping to accomplish her leg hold this season. Favorite foods include Alfredo Ravioli and brownies for dessert! In Charlie’s spare time she enjoys playing with her American Girl dolls, spending time with her puppy, and watching Tales of a Ladybug and Cat Noir. When Charlie grows up she hopes to be a Dog Trainer. Miss Heather selected Charlie this month for these reasons:

“Charlotte has been doing a great job in both Mini Jazz and Tap rehearsals. Each week she strives to perform better than the week previous and continues to amaze us with her muscle memory and ability to pick up choreography with ease. Charlotte’s consistent determination to grow as a dancer is why I nominated her.”

Congrats Charlie!

Absence Form – This will be checked every Monday.  If the absence is not entered by Monday morning please still complete the form, but call as well so we can notify the teacher.  To be considered for an excused absence please make sure to complete the form no later than 30 days prior to the absence.

Team Hip Hop Shoes:  Details were already emailed out regarding these shoes.  Click HERE to review.  Payment/orders are due November 10th.

Extra Saturday POMS Update for December:  For our December Extra Saturday Rehearsals, Poms will now be one hour long instead of 30 minutes. This will be on December 5th from 1-2 pm. Dancers that are also on Teen Lyrical will be dismissed at 1:45 when their Teen Lyrical extra rehearsal begins.

NYCDA Dance Convention February 12th-14th in Chicago at Hyatt Regency O’Hare
Registration Due – November 23rd

Attending a convention is a BLUE TEAM requirement. This is the official APA convention that staff will attend if that factors into your decision.

1-Day Workshop: Ready, Set, Dance: Ages 5-7: $115
*For Dancers ages 5-7, a fun intro in the convention world, with classes in Jazz, Tap, and Ballet.
*Saturdays from 8:45 AM to 11:45 AM- concludes with a performance, diploma, and souvenir

2-Day Workshop: Ages 8 and older: $265
Optional Spectator Fee: $50 p/p

How to Register: Pay the APA front desk Monday-Thursday 4 pm-9 pm by November 23rd. If you would like to use the account on file or a credit card there is a 3% service fee.

South Milwaukee LIGHTED Christmas Parade:  South Milwaukee is still waiting to see if they get approved for a permit for their LIGHTED Christmas Parade for Saturday, November 21st.  IF this parade happens, it will be optional for our families because of the short notice and we want to take into consideration everyone’s comfort level.  At this time they still have not released any safety protocols either.  APA would send out an email with details and a sign-up form if this is happening.  We would need at least 20 students for us to attend. 

It is a fun event and gets our dancers out into the community to perform.  The parade routine is easy and would be provided if this parade is confirmed. 

Team Holiday Party – Friday, December 4th: 
Our Team Holiday Party will be held on Friday, December 4th.  Please remember we will NOT have the Lock-In this year due to Covid.  Details are outlined below:

Minis – Party Times: 6:30pm-7:45pm
ALL OTHER TEAMS – Arrival Time:  8 pm-TBD   ***Please remember we have to host this event later due to teachers/teams having class this night!  We are still working out the details for pick-up times.  Our agenda for 2020 will look different than years past since students are not sleeping over.

Notes for 2020:

  • We will NOT do a gift exchange due to Covid.
  • To cut down on a HUGE amount of waste, there will not be disposable cups at APA. Students MUST HAVE a water bottle to drink out of (can fill with water or use as a cup for soda when we have pizza).
  • APA will be providing soda and pizza when students arrive!  Mini Teams will have juice boxes instead of soda. 
  • Activities for the night: Eat, perform your routines for your fellow dancers, team bonding games 
  • What to bring: Dance shoes (students will perform for each other) Water bottles, money for vending machine snacks (optional)

REMEMBER – Production and our extra Saturday rehearsals will take place on Saturday, December 5th.  Times are listed at the top of this Newsletter. 

Team Hair & Makeup
Hair & Makeup Demo Videos for ALL Teams are available on our website under:
Members Area > Team Info (the password-protected section).

Please watch these videos and make sure you’re doing the makeup as instructed; it will look heavy up close!

The following Teams will wear double-space buns: Mini Jazz and Mini Tap. Everyone else will wear a single low bun with a middle part per the video. We know this will require hair changes for some dancers, and it may be quick, but it’s what creates the best image/presentation on-stage for each group.

Our teachers will check hair and makeup at the Winter Shows and let dancers know if they need to make any changes or add more.

Dance Showcase

Dance Showcase (APA Winter Mini Rec & Competitive Shows):  Our Dance Showcase is set for Saturday, December 19th and Sunday, December 20th.  Due to Covid we will be offering APA Winter Mini Shows for our recreational classes.   Our team routines will perform in a Competitive Show only because so many of the dancers are enrolled in multiple Teams. This will give our students a chance to perform on a stage with room for family to social distance in our audience. We will be complying with all guidelines set by the City to make this experience as safe as we can for those family members that feel comfortable attending.   

Masks will be required for all dancers and spectators ages 5 and older unless exempt.  Every other row of seats will be blocked off and there will be 2 seats in between each family.

Dates/times will be finalized by November 15th and will be emailed out with more details.

Costumes:  Costumes have started to come in already!  We will continue doing reveals on the APA Facebook page and your teacher will hand out costumes in class when they arrive. Some costumes were in stock and others are made-to-order. Your class will continue receiving them through the middle of November. You will be trying them on in the classroom when you receive them to ensure they fit properly. If you have any questions about the fit of the costume, please ask your teacher.  Alterations are at your own expense.

In-Class FULL Dance Dress Rehearsal:  Starting Saturday, December 12th – Friday, December 18th we will have our students come to their last regular class day/time AT APA before our Showcase in complete costume.  Competitive rehearsals do NOT need full makeup, but you should have your hair done in the style required for the Team (competition-ready perfection not required for this). If your Team is listed above for double buns, you will need those in to make sure all hairpieces are positioned the same. This will help our teachers see if there are any costume or shoe issues before our performances. 

Competition Fees/Events for 2020-2021 – Automatically Charged 1/4/2021 to your account on file.

Miss Alyssa has everyone’s updated fees. Please contact her at [email protected] or see her at the front desk for your fee total. These fees must be paid on time!  Your dancer will not be registered for the competitions unless payment is received. APA cannot guarantee dancers can be added at a later date. 

*Fees do not include National fees. These will be due sometime in May. Mini’s: please note you have 1 Jazz routine and 1 Tap routine.

1st Team Routine:  $405
Each additional Team Routine:  $255

Member Accounts:  On our website  there is a Member Log-in area. Every family has their own account.  You can see what your account has been charged, enroll in classes, etc. Your username is the email address you gave us. If you need to update your email address, please contact us.

Referral Program: Share us with a friend!  When a new family registers and mentions your name, you EACH will receive a $50 tuition voucher. The voucher will be mailed out after 2 months of paid enrollment and there is no limit to the number of families you can refer!
