[vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Spring has officially sprung!
Every season in Wisconsin has its own amazing attributes, but Spring is the one that brings color and life back after a long, cold winter. It’s time to break that cabin fever we have all been feeling!
What better way to celebrate a new season than time spent outdoors with the family.
We have discovered 5 amazing family outdoor spots right in our own backyard!
These activities are for all ages and can be short afternoon events or all-day adventures!
Emerald Preserve
One of the NEWEST editions to Drexel Town Square and by far its crown jewel. The Emerald Preserve is a 0.8-mile trail on a loop perfect for kids of all ages. 18 acres with beautiful scenic views of forest, wetlands, and a small pond. The trail is also home to local wildlife such as turtles, geese, and the occasional deer or two.
The Emerald is also a great place to break out the binoculars and go bird watching. Springtime promises the migration of songbirds, cardinals, and finches. The trail is dog friendly, leashes required and is best traveled by foot. A great way to spend the morning outdoors or a short afternoon stroll.
Gastruas Golf Center
A classic family activity fun for all ages! Gastruas Golf Center is located just off of Rawson and has both a driving range, mini-golf, and a new activity to the community footgolf. Footgolf is played on a golf course with a soccer ball that participants kick into a cup in as few shots as possible.
So whether your family is looking for the classic version or is ready to try something new, this adventure is a winner. Click the link below for all the information on hours and pricing.

Lake Vista Park
If you haven’t been to Lake Vista Park yet, you are in for a treat! This location offers so many adventures in one location. Take a walk on the trails that line Lake Michigan and enjoy the beautiful view.
Make your way through the woods and find hidden treasures and head down to the beach for a day by the water. Be sure to stop at the playground! The zipline is by far the best attraction along with the musical instruments that are fun for all ages.
The Racine Zoo
The title of this adventure is just the tip of the iceberg! The Racine Zoo offers not just a great wildlife experience, but an array of events catered to both children and adults alike. Make it a day trip and enjoy all the zoo has to offer. See amazing animals from amphibians and reptiles to mammals and invertebrates.
Looking to do something different? Check out all the events the zoo has to offer. Breakfast with the Animals, Mother’s Day Brunch, Blossoms and Brews, and Slumber Safari are just a few of the great events they host! Be sure to see their latest addition, The American Bald Eagle.
Boerner Botanical Garden
One of the BEST places in our area to visit in Spring is the Boerner Botanical Gardens. What better way to enjoy the beauty of the season than surrounded by 11 different types of gardens and over 50 acres of natural beauty. Take a stroll through the Rose Garden, make a stop at the Arboretum, and don’t forget to see the Daylily Path. Exciting events can also be found here! Concerts in the Garden and The Chinese Lights Festival are two of the most popular events on their calendar.
Whichever event you choose, we hope these adventures help your family celebrate the season!
