Top 5 Reasons to Encourage Exercise in the Winter

As the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter, cozy sweaters and curling up by a crackling fire is all anybody wants to do. But even though we are entering our hibernation season, it’s important to keep students’ bodies active and energetic!

Exercise is important for everyone, but it becomes even more crucial in Winter, as it helps boost energy levels throughout the day during a time when most are stuck indoors. We all need to be active and healthy, but it can sometimes be hard to get started. How do you make exercise fun?

Here are five reasons why exercise is so important during this time of year PLUS activities you can do together as a family to stay healthy through the winter.

1) Exercise reduces stress!

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s easy to stress about the upcoming list of tasks needing to be accomplished before Saint Nick arrives. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress and increase energy to get that to-do list checked! What better way to encourage healthy behaviors than accomplishing them with your kiddos. Head out for a family bike ride before the snow falls or make a date to go cross country skiing when it does! Outdoor activities are great ways to stay active without feeling like you’re exercising.

2) Exercise boosts your immune system

It’s no secret that exercise is good for you, but did you know it can boost your immune system? Exercise is one of the BEST ways to boost your immune system and fight off illness! Not only does it help you stay healthy, but it also increases endorphins keeping your mood balanced during this busy time of year. If we’re diligent about staying on top of our health, we’re less likely to have illness spread!

3) Exercise improves sleep quality

Parents and kids have dozens of tasks on their daily lists, and rest is key to keeping you and them healthy and well-rested. Studies show that exercise helps to regulate the body’s circadian rhythm, which helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

4) You’ll have more ENERGY!

If you want more energy throughout the day, then start exercising! Exercise increases mental and physical energy levels which means you’ll have more energy to accomplish your daily tasks. With benefits like these, it’s no wonder why so many people are encouraged to work out every day! It’s amazing how much our bodies can do when we take care of them properly.

5) Exercise will improve your family’s mood

Whether you are craving a run outside or want to work out at home with your kids, there are numerous reasons why exercising can boost your mood. It releases endorphins, reduces stress, and helps manage depression. With so many benefits for everyone in the family it’s no wonder that exercise improves mental health!
