Meet Our Student Expert Panel: The Impact of APA Music Concerts, Through Their Eyes

“The concerts have helped me grow as a singer by teaching me different skills, and allowing me to show off my talents.  They have allowed me to meet other student singers.”

Adeline Tavela

“APA concerts have helped me learn to maintain my composure and get ‘in the zone’, in a sense, when I’m playing. Since they come up twice a year, it’s a constant test of the discipline of practice and the ability to stay calm and do well, which translates into my everyday life quite well in places like work and school. Of course, being able to learn and play progressively more difficult songs is just plain fun, to put it simply. Thank you APA!”

Gabe Hall

“The concerts have been so beneficial to my confidence as a performer. Every time I finish a performance I feel that I’ve improved just a little bit more each time. Getting to look back on past shows and compare them to recent ones feels like night and day. Also being able to watch others in their journey and build rapport with them always feels nice.”

“APA music concerts have taught me to take risks and better myself as a performer, which has given me so many opportunities.”

Maya Malone

“APA music concerts have…

  • Helped me feel more comfortable being on a stage and performing in front of hundreds of people.
  • Allowed me to meet so many friends backstage and now I always feel so excited to see them every year!
  • Given me the opportunity to feel accomplished and feel proud of myself for learning and performing a song.
  • Given me a goal to look forward to meeting when I learn new songs every year.
  • Allowed me to improve my self confidence through performing a piece that I have practiced for so long.”

“I think that concerts have benefited me by helping me not be afraid of presenting in front of other people. I feel like since I have to perform in front of other people it has helped me be better at presenting in general, not just in piano! Just playing the piano itself has helped improve my memory since practicing so much gets you to memorize songs, but piano has helped my memory outside of just practicing songs as well which is really great for school. Being in piano, practicing, and performing have definitely helped build confidence as I’ve had to learn so much and play in front of others even at not my best work.”
