Dance Newsletter: June 2024

As we prepare for our end-of-the-year performances, we know a lot of questions may arise. If anyone is uncertain about any information, please feel free to call or text us. If you will not be joining us for summer classes, we hope you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you in fall for the start of our 20th year! Thank you for being a part of APA this past season and making it a great year! The studio will have limited office hours during the summer.

Join us this Summer!! We are offering (2) 4-week long mini GROUP class sessions. Pick between Session I and Session II dates or register for both to keep your student moving all summer long.  Session I will be June 17th-July 20th (w/ week of 4th of July off) and/or Session II July 22th-August 17th.

Yard Sign Contest:

Grab a yard sign from the lobby at either location and place it in your yard, THEN take a photo and share it to your Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #APAproud! We will pick a random winner each month who will receive a $50 tuition credit. Winners are announced on our social platforms, and we’ll contact you on your post! First come, first serve!

NEW! Summer Group Piano Classes

For  Beginners Ages 9-13! Are you looking for an introduction to piano class for beginners – in a GROUP setting?  Students will learn how to read music and play familiar songs on the piano! Keyboard included for students to use!

Dance Student T-shirt/Medal Pick-Up:

T-shirts and medals will be handed out during dress rehearsals. We will also hand out our 5, 10 or 15 year awards during dress rehearsals so students have the option to get a professional picture taken with the trophy. Parent t-shirt orders can also be picked up during our dress rehearsals! If your student will not be performing in the show, please contact us after June 17th for our summer hours.

Assistant/Leadership Program:

We are revamping our assistant program, which will now be called the APA Leadership Program! We have been researching other programs that will benefit our younger assistants by providing leadership skills and more guidance on how to assist the teacher. We feel revamping this program will provide more training. Please click the link below to view the new details on the program!

Special Someone Dance Production:

For our Spring Dance Showcase!

This is one of our favorite events to see ON STAGE at our Spring Showcase! This is a FREE event. This is for current students performing in our Spring Dance Showcase who want to dance on stage for a special performance with mom, dad, grandma, grandpa etc.  Only one practice will be needed to learn the routine. If you can’t make it, we will have a video link for you to learn at home starting in June.  

Students will wear their costumes on stage for the performance.  For the adults that will be performing with their students – we suggest that you wear business casual clothing or jeans and a nice shirt for the performance.   Both locations may attend either practice.

Franklin Practices: Friday, May 31st
Grades 1st and younger:  5:45-6:30pm (45 minutes)
Grades 2nd and older:  6:30-7pm  (30 minutes)

Oak Creek Practices:   SATURDAY, June 1st
Grades 1st and younger: 12:45-1:30pm (45 minutes)
Grades 2nd and older:  12:15pm-12:45pm  (30 minutes)

Student Absences:

Our music and dance recitals are coming up soon! If your student is missing a lot of classes prior to an upcoming performance, please make sure they are practicing at home. If a student does not know their music piece or dance routine, our teachers may ask that those students do not participate in our shows.

Spring Dance Showcase & Rehearsal/Picture Times @ Oak Creek APA

Spring Dance Showcase & Rehearsal/Picture Times – click HERE for details (scroll down to Showcase Schedule & Performance Order Index).  

Rehearsals & pictures are set for Tuesday, June 11th through Thursday, June 13th. Our rehearsals will take place at our Oak Creek location at APA.  There are no regular classes this week​ starting Tuesday, June 13th.​ We will have normal classes on Monday, June 12th because we are closed on Memorial Day.

Each class will have a set time block to rehearse with their class and get pictures taken during June 11th-13th.  ***This time will be different from your normal scheduled class time since we have to accommodate so many classes and arrange with our photographer in one location. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your student’s class start time.  

We will have our students come to APA (Oak Creek location) in complete costume with hair and make-up done. This will help our teachers see if there are any costume or shoe issues before our performance.  Times are listed on our Showcase Index next to your dancers’ showcase time by visiting our website listed below.

Students will have time to run through their routines a few times and then immediately head to another studio room for their pictures to be professionally taken by School & Sports Pictures.  Please expect this to take 20-35 minutes from the start of your student’s class arrival time. 

Newest Spring Showcase Info!!

Spring Showcase 2024 Details
Our recreational dance classes will perform on Saturday, June 15th. Our Competitive Team Showcase (only competitive dancers) is scheduled for Friday, June 14th. Our performances will be held at Oak Creek Performing Arts Center.  This is a ticketed event.

How will June 15th work? We will have 4 show times on Saturday, June 15th at 9am, 12pm, 3pm & 6pm. Each class will be assigned one performance time.  We will have students arrive at the Oak Creek Performing Arts and Education Center 30 minutes prior to their scheduled showcase time.

Shows will run approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes with a short intermission. All classes ages 4 and younger will perform before the intermission and can leave during the intermission if you feel your student is too young to last the whole show.

Do you have siblings in different showcases?  Because of the inconvenience, APA will offer families who have siblings in different dance showcase times, 4 free tickets to your second show time. We will put a credit in your APA account for the value of 4 free standard tickets ($52) to deduct off future tuition. APA has over 700 dancers performing with multiple siblings so it is very difficult to schedule all siblings together. We accommodate families first based on the date you registered for our current session. Please email us if your siblings are not in the same show along with your ticketing receipt so we can verify and add the credit to your account.

Back-stage Volunteers:  We will also have a volunteer parent sign-up available for anyone who wants to help chaperone younger students backstage.  Volunteers do not have to purchase a ticket and can watch their child’s performance from the side stage. Volunteers must stay for the duration of the entire show and siblings who are not performing are not allowed to be back-stage.  We will send a volunteer email the week of the showcase with final instructions.  Sign-up HERE!

NEW APA Required Dress Code for September 2024: 

For the upcoming  2024-2025 school year session, our recreational classes will have a fresh, new dress code! The dress code outlines different leotard options – with each age group wearing a different color! These can be paired with fitted shorts, pants, or skirts, if you choose. *Hip Hop students will not wear leotards but will still have a dress code in place.

We will have sizing dates available in August to pre-order items! We do not want students to order too early in case they grow over the summer. When items are available for purchase, our current APA families that registered for our fall classes by June 15th, will receive a $20 APA apparel credit to use towards our new dress code. (This will not be a physical gift certificate and the credits will be applied upon your registration date when ordering items).

We feel the right dance attire transforms your child from a student to a dancer, allowing them to move freely, focus on technique, and fully engage in the artistic expression that dance offers. It also promotes Equality and Inclusivity: Uniformity in attire promotes equality among our dancers, irrespective of their background or personal style. It fosters a sense of inclusivity, emphasizing that everyone is an essential part of our dance family.

Member Accounts:
There is a Member Log-in area on our website where you can see what your account has been charged, enroll in classes, etc. Every family has their own account.  Your username is the email address you gave us. If you need to update your email address, please contact us.

Referral Program:  
Share us with a friend! When a new family registers and mentions your name, you will EACH receive a $50 tuition credit. The credit will be automatically put into your APA account after the new family has paid for 2 months of enrollment. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer to APA!
